Print and Printmaking
Original Prints are handmade works of art produced by the artist. Etching involves working on the surface area of a metal plate.
Copper , because of its capacity to reproduce subtleties, is the preferred medium. The plate is covered with wax and an image is drawn on the surface with a scribe or a point.
The back of the plate is protected , before plate is immersed in acid - ferric acid - and acid eats into the drawn area.
When the plate is cleaned back and front, the surface image is inked up and the image transferred to previously dampened rag paper, when put through the printing press.
Shadows involve the use of resin with varying immersion times in acid, depending on relative darkness of shadow required.
An embossed effect involves the use of cut outs, and textural effects are achieved through the use of soft ground wax.
Chine` collee` includes the use of japanese or lens tissue as overlays or underlays, and prints often include the use of gold leaf and or stitching.
Prints are produced in limited editions as indicated by the artist.
The term A/P indicates artist’s proof and is the accepted image from which an edition will follow.
Monoprint indicates a unique print not replicated.
V/P indicated there may be slight variations within each print of the edition.
All prints are original hand produced images , designed and executed by the artist.
